When I was a boy, my sister Lenora got sick and had to go to
the hospital. This was when children under twelve could not go to the hospital
to visit.
The word came that she would not live to see the morning. I was convinced
that if I could get to her and get her doll to her, she would live.
After being told I
could not see her, I stole the family tractor and set off on the 22-mile
journey after dark. 15 miles into the journey, the tractor ran out of gas. I
left it on the side of the road and started to walk.
Night sounds were frightening. I was scared but nothing was
going to stop me from getting to her.
My grandfather found me about 3 miles from the hospital. He
demanded I get in the car so he could take me home.
I defied him and demanded he take me to the hospital. After
trailing me and convinced I was serious, he relented and took me to the hospital.
I went in her room and saw my sister. She was under an oxygen tent. I
raised it enough to touch her and place the doll under the tent near her. I then told my
family I would cooperate and go home. The news in the morning was that she recovered
and would be coming home.
Today, she is the mother of five. Her oldest son (Justin) serves a
member of Congress in D.C. Her next two sons (Grant and Jack) .are attending Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Her fourth son (Drew) and baby girl (Laura) are in high school at Monroe County HIgh School in Tompkinsville, Kentucky.
The doctors do not always have the final say. My sister Lenora is living proof and this is just one instance of God power LIVE and
demonstrated in our family.
